The writer describes Gramadoelas as a "marvelously cluttered restaurant" and states that it has catered for "royals, rock stars, presidents, and audiences from all over Africa", including Senator Hillary Clinton and Nelson Mandela, since it was opened 40 years ago. She was less impressed by the food which "sometimes sacrifices excellence in favor of authenticity" and states that "Not everyone enjoys" it.
