Compiled for you: The facts!Details Bede's World

Description: Jarrow is now a town on the south bank of the River Tyne. An Anglo-Saxon monastery was founded here in 681 AD and within it St Paul's Church was built and dedicated in 685 AD. The Venerable Bede entered the monastery as a seven-year-old boy and spent his life writing and documenting monastic life. Bede's World is a museum demonstrating life in the seventh and eighth centuries. It features an exhibition of The Age of Bede, excavations of the monastery ruins and a collection of rare breed animals and a herb garden in the Anglo-Saxon Farm. There is a café and gift shop on site.
