The Straits of Tiran is a passage of water which separates the Sinai and Arabian peninsulas off the coast of Egypt. The Straits vary in width from as little as 2.5 km up to 13 km.
Four reefs lie in the centre occupy the of the Strait and these are called Jackson, Woodhouse, Thomas and Gordon Reefs - they are named after British cartographers who mapped them. There is a large wrecked ship grounded on one of the reefs at a precarious angle.
