The Samode Palace can be found "an hour's drive" from Jaipur but despite the distance, it's "popular, pretty" and "very commercialized". It was once an "exclusive retreat" but then it was used as a set in the 1984 mini-series 'The Far Pavilions' which put it "on the map" leading to a new wing being built with "charmless low-ceilinged" rooms with their views of the car park. The original palace suites are "beautiful" and "huge" and are well furnished with a "mix of antiques and contemporary pieces". The bathrooms are "adequate" but could do with "renovating".
