When the writer arrived in Isfahan his "sole mission" was to see the "fabulous" Imam Square at night. The square was built "under the guidance" of Shah Abbas in the 17th century. He found the square was "not the night time spectacle" he had been expecting. Because there is "such colour in detail" he thought it to be the sort of place "that needs the light of day". It was "very nice at night" but he returned the next day to see it again before giving his "verdict".
