The author describes this hotel as "One of the most charming hotels in town "and goes on to tell us, that the "facade was built around 1775". He feels that one of the most charming features was the "old-fashioned bar" where his "Guinness" tasted so good. He describes the public areas as having "flagstone floors, beamed ceilings, and blazing fireplaces". He goes on to say that the rooms are "cozy" decorated in "old-fashioned Scottish style" but conceded that some have king sized beds, which he says is "unusual for Scotland".
