Victoria Tower stands 900 feet (275 metres) above sea level on Castle Hill. This was the location of an Iron Age fort and human activity can be traced back here over 4,000 years. Little remains today of the castle that once stood here but the tower was erected in 1897 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, although the tower was not completed until 1899. There is a charge to climb the top of the tower: Adults - £1.30 (2 Euros) Children - 60p (1 Euro) Families (2 adults and up to 4 children) - £3.00 (4.5 Euros) Due to the nature of this attraction it is not fully accessible for disabled visitors. |
