friendly: genuine English country House experience
Like all English country house "luxury" hotels very, very expensive for what you get. The running costs (heating bills, staff) must be enormous. So the price is huge for a hotel that needs a lot of work to the interior. To charge for newspapers is a bit insulting with these sort of room rates. The atmosphere at this "Grade 1 Elizabethan manor house" is more like a "posh friend's grand country home" than a hotel. It is less "formal" than other country hotels: guests "slouch" on sofas in front of a log fire in the "Jacobean Great Hall" or scrape mud from their boots outside the "imposing" wooden door. The Times sent journalist Walter F Stowy undercover to check out the 10 hotels awarded 'Cesars' by the Good Hotel Guide. As soon as he arrived he know he was "in for a treat". He awarded the location 10 / 10 and noted it was an "ivy-clad Elizabethan Manor" which is set in an estate of "3500 acres" with "pheasants and Arabian foals". He received an [more...]
