[sian, 07/01/2009] There are two ways to get from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island, you can either take the MTR or the Star Ferry. It costs around the same as taking the MTR, however it is a completely different experience. From Kowloon to Hong Kong Island it takes less than 10 minutes and the ferry leaves very frequently throughout the day enabling you to have stunning views of the Hong Kong Skyline from the water. The easy option is to use the MTR and taxis when in Hong Kong, the Star Ferry is used by tourists and locals and allows you to see Hong Kong from a different perspective. [jodapoet, 31/03/2008] The first news report of the star ferry seafaring vessel was reported in 1888. Since that time the ferry has endured many a hardship with typhoons and wars. Today it is the main mode of transportation between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. Each vessel can carry up to 200 passengers and runs every few minutes. The author describes the "5 minute ride" with every detail from entering to disembarking, including details o the price. The ride is "relaxing whatever time of the day" and it "has to be done at least once" while in Hong Kong.
