, 07/01/2008] Hong Kong Disneyland is situated on Lantau Island where it was built on reclaimed land. It was opened in 2005 and covers approximately 100 acres though expansion plans are in the pipeline this is the smallest of the Disneyland resorts. It is very easy to get to from Hong Kong as the MTR runs there with the last leg of the journey from Sunny Bay station being on a Disney themed train with Mickey windows and hand pull also in the shape of Mickeys head which the children loved. A quote half way through the article sums up this Disneyland: Disney has accepted that "it must incorporate local traditions". This is a different experience from the US and European Disneys on many levels. Firstly the food. The reviewer ate dim sum for breakfast in the "inviting and impressive" Corner Café, where the chilli oil on the laksa was so "aggressive" it generates coughing. The food was "un-theme-park quality" and geared to the pockets of the visiting Chinese. We learn later that there is no alcohol in the park. Then the weather.
