  • The Cheese Rollers Inn

The Cheese Rollers Inn - Cheltenham, United Kingdom
    Cheese Rolling (03.02.2008 15:02)
It was the attractive name of this pub / restaurant, situated on the main A46 close to Cheltenham City Centre, that drew me in for an evening meal recently. The pub was close to the hotel where we were staying, and it is easy to reach from the city centre itself as well as being only a few km from the main M5 motorway. The car park was towards the back of the hotel, and it was extremely dark, [more...]

Belvoir Castle - Grantham, United Kingdom
    Beautiful View? (27.01.2008 01:59)
Belvoir Castle and Estate is located in Leicestershire, approximately 11 miles from Melton Mowbray, and a similar distance from Bingham. I have driven past it several times, and as it is so close to me, I felt it was essential to check it out sooner rather than later, to see if it can offer what my previous castle of choice - Culzean Castle in Ayrshire - offered me and the family for so many [more...]
  • Valvona and Crolla

Valvona and Crolla - Edinburgh, United Kingdom
    Delicate Essen (27.01.2008 01:45)
I first heard of Valvona and Crolla a good couple of years ago now, via an on-line review of all things. And it took me a few months before I was able to make it to their wonderful shop in Elm Row, nr Leith Walk, Edinburgh. I thought it was high time I share this little delight of Edinburgh that has graced its streets since 1934. Its not the easiest place in Edinburgh to park but by sheer good [more...]

4550 Miles from Delhi - Nottingham, United Kingdom
    A Mere 12 miles for me... (27.01.2008 01:37)
I was first attracted to the restaurant 4550 Miles from Delhi, by its very name. I had walked past it one Sunday night when it was closed, and it stuck with me as a place to eat some time. That some time finally arrived a few days ago. The restaurant itself was runner up in the 2005 Nottingham Restaurant Awards, for Non European cuisine, and given that there were some exceptional names in [more...]
  • Goose Fat and Garlic

Goose Fat and Garlic - Sawbridgeworth, United Kingdom
Neither Fish nor Fowl (27.01.2008 01:30)
I think the name Goose Fat and Garlic sold it for me more than anything. My sister had visited the restaurant about two months ago with her fiancé and I knew I would go there one day. I am not quite sure what it is about the name that is so enticing, after all, I dont particularly like ‘fowl food....I finally got my chance to go recently when we booked a table for four for a pre-holiday / pre [more...]

Travelodge Slough - Slough, United Kingdom - November, 2003
    Come Friendly Bombs (27.01.2008 00:54)
Overall this was a comfortable and affordable place to stay for a week, for either business or leisure trips. We had some minor problems with the administration of our check in, which was being billed directly back to our company; however these were quickly resolved. Breakfast was a bit of a let down, although they did do much better at dinner, and hopefully the staffing problems will be a minor [more...]
  • Gallaghers Boxty House

Gallaghers Boxty House - Dublin, Ireland
No Pop stars in sight.. (27.01.2008 00:47)
Gallagher's Boxty House is situated in the heart of Temple Bar, and close to the Ha'penny Bridge. The food is traditional Irish, with an emphasis on stews, soups and inevitably the Irish Boxty or potato pancake which is cooked on a griddle and filled with various fillings. The Boxty House is just a restaurant however, and it is not a place where you would go just for a drink, and so we [more...]
  • Guinness Store House

Guinness Store House - Dublin, Ireland
    Liffey Water? (27.01.2008 00:42)
I first read about the Guinness Storehouse on a consumer website about two years ago, and decided it would have to be on my list of attractions to visit on my next visit to Dublin; the thought of a complimentary pint of Guinness after browsing through seven floors of attractions of liquid black gold artefacts, being just to tempting to refuse. The museum is open seven days a week, with the [more...]
  • Cafe Bleu

Cafe Bleu - Newark-on-Trent, United Kingdom
Good food fine Art (19.01.2008 23:53)
Newark is a bustling little market town, and has quite a selection of individual restaurants along its Castlegate. Café Bleu had first come to my attention earlier this year, when I was looking for a restaurant for a birthday celebration. Café Bleu won the Best Out of Town restaurant in the 2006 Nottingham Restaurant awards, even beating the formidable Langar Hall, and also Tom Brown's (whose [more...]
