Concord falls is one of the more popular falls on the island, with visitors, and is on the list of our favourite places to go hiking as it also passes through a field of nutmeg trees.
Several of the local tour companies include it on their list of places to see.
The Concord river valley actually has 3 waterfalls, with the Concord falls being the most easily accessible and therefore the more popular.
The main road takes you directly to the waterfall, and there are steps leading down to the pool and is perfect for a refreshing swim.
The admission fee is US$1.
For anyone who likes hiking, the trail to the other two falls, Au Coin and Fountainbleu, is worth considering. The trail to Au Coin leads along the river to the base of the falls and
usually takes about half hour to walk. A guide is not required for this, as the trail is well marked, but be prepared to get your feet wet as the trail meanders in and out of the stream. Bathing at the other two falls is not encouraged, as they are part of the local water distribution system.
The hike to Concord's third falls, Fountainbleu, is a little more strenuous, and a guide is definitely required as the trail is not marked. It is the more secluded of the 3 falls and well worth a visit. The water cascades down a 65ft cliff into a crystal clear pool at its base. The hike to this falls takes about one and a half hours and winds through an adjacent valley, which is part of the Concord watershed.
There are guides available, both from the local tour companies and at the falls themselves and there is a small bar located at the main Concord falls where you can purchase drinks, use the wash rooms and take some photos.
