Compiled for you: The facts!Details People's Palace and Winter Gardens
| Description: |
The People's Palace is situated in Glasgow Green near the centre of Glasgow. It plots the social history of Glasgow from 1750 right up to the present day. There is a diverse collection of historic paintings, banners and photographs on display. Parts of the museum are set out like rooms to depict life in those days such as the famous " single end ", which was a one roomed dwelling from the 1930's. Another is the trip to the "Steamie" or washhouse (laundrette nowadays), which was a very social place to go and its only very recently that the last one was shut. Also on display are the banana boots made famous by Billy Connelly in the '70s. It is a fun place to visit with something to interest every taste and, like all museums in Glasgow, it's free. At the rear of the Palace is the Winter Gardens which is a giant glasshouse that contains a cafe and place to relax. This venue can also be hired for Weddings. To the front of the Palace is the Doulton Fountain, which is apparently the "largest terracotta fountain in the world" |
