"Newly refurbished" at a cost of "several million pound", the Kelvingrove is not found wanting, even compared to the Burrel Collection, considered to be "the star". To the writer, Glasgow has accumulated "one of the best" collections of any town in Europe. This and the "magnificent" building that houses the collection, has made it "the most visited" museum in Scotland, and the UK "outside London".

Although mainly art, with Dali's Christ of St. John the Cross "of particular note", and with "other highlights", one can also see other varied displays. Rather than detracting from the quality of the museum, this mixture of theme is often put "to good educational effect", with "interactive" displays and humorous moments, such as that famous "creature, [the] haggis".

The Kelvingrove is awarded two Frommer stars, out of a possible 3.
