[weetoon, 08/12/2006] The reopening of the Kelvingrove Art museum after a long closure for refurbishment was something of an event in Glasgow. However, the day we chose to go and visit it, the event was of a different nature and had more to do with faulty plumbing. The result was, the museum was closed that morning and no-one knew when it would reopen. We were at a bit of a loose end, so we decided to kill a couple of hours by visiting the Transport Museum just across the road. This reviewer has "20+ years" experience of visiting this museum, as he used to go there "a couple of times a year" with his family as a child, back to before the museum "moved to its new home". He mentions as one of the advantages of the museum the fact that it is "free", and the café is deemed "not too costly" for a museum café. This reviewer is a repeat visitor to the Museum of Transport and particularly enjoys taking the children as "their faces gleam" when they are there. The museum is deemed very accessible, despite the "huge flight of stairs", as there is a little further on "an outdoor lift" for general use but very practical for "wheelchairs and prams". For any "coach party" of people with disabilities, there is the option of a "back entrance" to allow "easy quicker access". This article,commences by telling us that here you will find "Glasgow's history of locomotives" which are on display with full size engine exhibits. There is also "the collection of Clyde-built ship models" here which, we are told, are World famous. Those of us who remember what Britain was like in the 1930's will really enjoy the "wax nostalgic street scenes" that the article tells us have been re-created to really show us the "era" of that time.
