In describing the history of this hotel the author finds that De Vere Cameron House Hotel is one of Scotland's "great country houses". Cameron House has shown its popularity with its fine guest, which lists key states people including Sir Winston Churchill, Princess Margaret and Earl Mountbatten. the ancestral home of the Smollets.
The author found the non-smoking rooms to be "top-rate", from the smallest house rooms to the highly recommended spacious four poster suites and describes the Spa facilities as "one of the best in this part of Scotland" as are the rest of the leisure facilities. The rooms themselves are found to be traditional in style, and using dark mahogany woods, while bathroom configurations vary from bath/shower combinations to other which have either a bath or a shower.
The hotel is child friendly and there is a playroom which is supervised, allowing parents to relax in the spa facilities.
The cuisine offered is either Scottish or French and is served in the Georgian Room which is as refined as is available in this part of Western Scotland. There are less formal options for dining in the other two restaurants. A variety of sporting options can be arranged including golf on the hotel's course or fishing or yacht parties on the loch.
The hotel receives Frommer's highest rate of Exceptional !
