ABode Glasgow Hotel is a boutique four star hotel built in 1829 and located in the city centre nearby to the Pavilion Theatre, Buchanan Galleries, Princes Square and the St. Enoch Centre. It features 59 guestrooms over 3 floors rated Comfortable, Desirable, Enviable and Fabulous. These all have ABode Vi-spring beds, ensuite bathrooms with monsoon showers and toiletries, a DVD player and LCD TV, hairdryer, writing desk, an in-room safe and ironing facilities. Baby cots are available on demand.
The hotel has 2 restaurants serving Scottish cuisine made with Scottish ingredients, a coffee shop/café and a lounge bar. Meeting and conference facilities are available and concierge and wedding services are available on demand. The whole hotel is smoke free.
Other hotel services and facilities include housekeeping, complimentary newspaper, front desk safety deposit box, medical assistance, 24 hour room service and front desk and laundry/dry cleaning services.
Edinburgh Zoo dates back to 1913 and is owned by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and was originally known as the Scottish National Zoological Park. It is located on Corstorphine Hill and overlooks the city of Edinburgh.
Today the zoo provides a home for around 1,000 different animals and covers an area of 330,000 m2 (82 acres). It receives over 600,000 visitors every year, which makes it the second most visited tourist attraction in Scotland (that charges an admission fee), after Edinburgh Castle.
The animals at Edinburgh Zoo include mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Many of the species are endangered and the zoo has a program that promotes the conservation of these threatened creatures.
Edinburgh Zoo is open daily from 9am throughout the year (including Christmas Day), closing times vary during the year from between 4.30pm and 6pm. Admission prices for adults are £14.00 (18 Euros) and £9.50 (11 Euros) for children aged 3-15.
Edinburgh Crystal Visitor Centre
Edinburgh has been the home of crystal glass since the 1800s. The Visitor Centre provides educational video presentations, catalogues and examples of Edinburgh crystal as well as craftsman demonstrations of the cutting and engraving of the glass. The Visitor Centre has a coffee shop and a restaurant. There is also a shop stocked with crystal and paperweights.
