Cousins visited the Intercontinental in Geneva, which has been open for over 40 years and is located "10 minutes away" from the United Nations, ensuring a "constant stream" of celebrity guests. During her stay "Stephen Hawking was in the bar". Most of Geneva's top hotels are "on the lakeside", but not the Intercontinental, which is just "10 minutes drive" from both the "airport and the city centre".The hotel has recently received a major "refurbishment" focused on the "exterior and public areas" designed by "Tony Chi". He booked a "standard room" but got an upgrade to a "corner suite" on the 12th floor, which he classifies as a "junior suite", as the "living room and bedroom area were both part of the same large room". The location of the hotel is near the UN buildings, says the author in his report, and it is an "easy bus ride" into town. Though he had read some criticism describing the rooms as "disappointing" in contrast to the "excellent décor in the lobby", he was "not disappointed" at all. The exterior "did not look very interesting from the road" so the author, but as she arrived at the hotel her car door "was opened instantly", her luggage "was whisked away from the car" and she was "escorted to the reception".
