[martanikolova, 06/01/2012] This is the first museum of this kind in Bulgaria. It is a place, which was able to store some of our traditions and crafts and is really unique. The complex is like a small ancient village, which transfers you years back and shows you our architecture, our crafts and our traditions that are still alive there. You can enjoy there the crafts of pottery, woodcarving, harness-making, icons painting, weaving, etc. You can buy souvenirs; you can see the water-powered facilities like the water mills, the saw mill, etc. There are also some interesting exhibition houses worth seeing. I visited the pla

I'm glad I was able to spend this winter in this great place in Bulgaria. I hope other winter again to get there. Also in the hut itself make a great tea. After a long day on the slopes spend such a tea me warm throughout the night.

One of the interesting things is sweet whites. Also machines for weaving, with which our grandmothers tissues in those times.I will be back after few years :)
[rvradev, 04/03/2010] Been there a few times and I love it! Accommodation is close to perfect- the rooms have everything you need and they are very cosy, clean and tidy (at least before the kids have their way with them). Food is excellent- we always put on a few pounds when we are there. Atmosphere puts you back in the 19th century Bulgaria. Hosts are very kind and helpful. The kids have a great time too wandering around in the forest or playing in the large yard.
Could not think of anything we were unhappy about so I highly recommend this place.

It is an outdoor museum. You will learn about the Bulgarian history, traditions and customs just by a short visit of Etar. This architectural and ethnographic complex will amaze you with its different old-style buildings and another very interesting thing are all the craftsmen who are working there. You can spend a couple of minutes just watching how they make leather shoes or how they knit beautiful carpets or even prepare some delicious traditional dishes. That's really exciting. There are some inns where yo

[ValentinaMM, 25/11/2009] The Etar is the ethnographic museum in the open air near Gabrovo city. It is established in 1964 with the main idea to put the visitor closer and in direct contact with the past. It spreads at about 7 ha and shows different sites. Houses, craft shops, water-driven machinery, candy and coffee shops, all architectured as in the Revival period of Bulgaria (18th century).
Do not think that you will just observe the crafts as an exhibition setting here. In the craft shops you can actually monitor craftsmen working. Workshops for sandals, copper smithery, cow bells, pottery making, woodcarving a

The most visited, however Glineni Garneta, or so-called by the local people Glinazha is located in the town center. The restaurant is in the central park, right next to the main shopping street. Great outside terrace works in the summer. Coffee is not very cheap, but this does not prevent the restaurant to be always full. The fresh fruit juices from crushed fruits, fruit cocktails and ice creams are very suitable for the hot summer. Of course there is extremely nice and friendly staff and fast service; the barman can

[flower1, 19/05/2009] On the 16of May this year thousands of guests came both from Bulgaria and abroad to celebrate Gabrowo holiday.
This is the most popular and merriest holiday for the residents of Gabrovo and their guests, the tradition roots come from the Great Hullabaloo in Gabrovo, which has been continuously influenced by Europe's mask balls from the beginning of the century. It has only been interrupted twice - during World War II and in the years between 1990 - 1997. This holiday was restored in 1998 with the participation of the Delegation of the European Union in Bulgaria. In 2000 Gabrovo was accepted as

Each year the Museum is visited by many tourists. Exibition are organized to acquaint visitors with traditional for Gabrovo region revival crafts. Exquisite works of master smiths, coppersmith, dresser, potter and weaver bring beauty and comfort to the souls.
We saw the plum smoking device and tasted the hot plums. They had excellent taste. Then we visited sweet workshop where we tasted the trad

[vald, 06/04/2009] I often go in Etara and every way there is something new for me.
Etara is an outside ethnographical museum, near to Gabrovo in Central Bulgaria. I like the old houses, set in row at an old cobble road. I'm not sure if I like more the old mill-wheel or the various craftsman's shops. For me it is very interesting to see how before two centuries the old Bulgarian people had made their pottery, their clothes and blankets, their knives and tools.
After the end of my tour in Etara I like to sit on the old house and to eat a traditional white jam with a cup of coffee, boiled on a hot sand.
