I haven’t actually stayed in this gîte, but as my job wants it, I have visited each corner of it, to publish this option to the public via a Guide de l’Hébergement (paper accommodation guide).
Now apart from the fact that this is one of Frances most beautiful areas and that its location is simply better than best, the Domaine de Cadablès is a fantastic option for wine enthusiasts. The Domaine is situated only 35 kilometres from the Mediterranean coast of the Golf du Lion with it’s wide sand beaches, and 14 kilometres from Pézenas, the beautiful home town of Molière.
The first thing you notice arriving in Gabian is the magnificent Château-Abbaye de Cassan, which is in the process of becoming a Corporate Wellness Centre. The former Royal Priory dating back to 1080 and its 12th Romanesque Church is part of the panoramic view you’ll get if you stay at the Domaine, amongst vineyards and forest land.
A short drive from the village of Gabian, through the vines, will lead you to the Domaine de Cadablès, which has it’s own wine cellar where you can taste the owners production. The gîte itself is a solid 3-storey stone house to the side of the Domaine with an attractive outdoor terrace in the middle of the vineyard.
The ground floor consists of the fully equipped kitchen and a sitting room with a very impressive chimney. The décor is well thought out and relaxing, in wood and white tones. A staircase leads up to the first floor, where there are two double bedded rooms with the view previously described. In the corridor, there is plenty of space for stocking luggage, or what ever else you may need extra space for.
A staircase leads up to the second floor, where there is a vast bedroom under the roof slopes, with four single beds. There is a bathroom with a shower on this floor, with two sinks and a huge wall mirror.
At the back of the Domaine, there is a long stone swimming pool surrounded by olive trees and grass areas, which can be used to put a tent up. This accommodation must be perfect for a large family or a group of people. The owners of the Domaine are an attentive, dynamic couple who also have an on site pottery shop, offering pottery workshops for young and less young.
