In the town of Furnas the Caldeiras, are amazing. Geysers spout out boiling hot water.
Local hoteliers bury large containers in the ground and the stew or "cozido is cooked slowly using the heat from the volcanic activity, tourists come to have lunch in the area, and enjoy the scenery.
There is a lovely park owned by the foresty commission. Everywhere was clean and tidy, good parking, although there was one really hot spot in the car park! and toilet facilities. [less]
