The author describes the Inverlochy Castle Hotel in Fort William as "a red-granite Victorian mansion" which is set in "50 acres of woodlands in the shadow of Ben Nevis" and the "striking Highland landscape is visible on every side". We are also informed that the hotel was built around 1863 and that it still "retains all the splendor of its period". There are features that include "crystal chandeliers" and "a fine fresco ceiling" as well as a "handsome staircase in the Great Hall".
The bedrooms are described as "plush and comfortable" and the restaurant is described as "excellent". This is run by "Matthew Gray, consistently named one of the region's top chefs". Here you can sample lots of "local specialties" that include "roe deer, Isle of Skye crab and hen pheasant" or for the more adventurous "creations like gin-poached venison with caramelized figs" are available.
