We stayed at Hotel David for 4 nights in August 2009. It was warm in Florence (35 C) and at night the airconditioning in the room was wonderful. The hotel is in a quiet corner surrounded by foliage and offers a family type atmosphere at Reception and in the lounge downstairs, where there are computers linked to the internet free of charge. The management serves soft drinks and canapes on ground floor terrace every evening about 6 pm. This is a great place to relax, but if you are susceptible to being bitten by mosquitos then cover up and spray repellent on your legs and arms.
There is another outdoors roof terrace which is partly shaded and a great place to sit or lie reading the paper, or conversing with a drink. The bedrooms are well laid out, the beds comfortable, and the showers and toilet ensuite kept beautifully clean.
The Hotel is a 10 min bus ride along the river into the city. The buses are frequent (about every 15 min) during the day and are easy to find. The hotel reception are very helpful in all respects with buses, restaurants etc. After an evening in town, the walk back along the river to the hotel takes about 30 min, but it is cooler, very safe, and a good way of letting the food and wine settle. All in all a lovely hotel that we would recommend to anyone visiting Florence who likes it quiet in the evenings and during the night, yet being relatively close to the bustle and lights of the city night life.
