The author states that he had "lived in Cape Town for many years" and describes it as a "superb city" which had changed much during his absence. Although the Victoria & Albert Waterfront "had grown from 300 restaurants & pubs to nearly 400" with good facilities and " food from all over the world", it "was not the highlight" of his visit. His culinary highlight was found "in the town of Fish Hoek, some 20km's outside of Cape Town" in the shape of "a restaurant called the Fishhoek Galley".
