It is located on the east coast of Fife, approximately 10 miles from Dundee and about 5 miles from St Andrews. Tentsmuir is rich in wildlife habitats, and many species can be observed in the forest, around the lochs and on the coast, including numerous birds as well as seals. There are several marked trails around Tentsmuir, including loch-side, forest and beach. All are flat and suitable for most ages and abilities. The beach is wide, sandy and very windy, affording wide ranging views of the sea, the north coast of Tay with Dundee and the east coast of Fife towards St Andrews. The area is accessible directly by car on the payment of 2 GBP charge at a barrier (coins needed). Alternatively, it's possible to walk from Tayport. The main car park, along a 2-mile stretch of single track road from A92 between Tayport and St Andrews, has toilets, picnic tables with barbecue supports, information shelter and children's playground.
