This is an absolute GEM of a place, very pretty and very welcoming, which we discovered by accident, on Google in late 2010. We've now been back three times.
Opened in 2009, it's owned by the lovely Pascal and Khadija Capdevielle, and it's just five minutes drive from Fez airport so it's the perfect spot for a long weekend or en route to another part of Morocco (we stayed there before going on to Ifrane, Morocco's "Little Switzerland" up in the mountains.
Comfort was exceptional - spacious, very comfy large beds with fresh white duvets, wooden shutters, artworks and beautiful silver-framed mirrors, with air con/heating and stunning views of the countryside. Pretty bathrooms painted in different colours - ochre, deep pink, green, etc - with heaters - ideal in winter! When we visited in March the gardens were already bursting with orange and yellow flowers.
Inside there's a cosy fireside dining room for winter, but we spent most of the time sipping coffee on the shaded terrace overlooking the pool. soaking up the sunshine, the peace and quiet with just the soundtrack of chirping birds....wonderful.
It's beautifully decorated (lovely at night, down a private driveway) and if you're looking for a convenient place to stay near Fez airport but NOT in the hustle and bustle of the medina, we cannot recommend this highly enough. I think there are 9 rooms, 3 suites and a few little houses in the gardens.
Lovely breakfasts with freshly made jams and bread and pancakes, and we had some delicious salads and tajines for dinner. There is a supermarket nearby and the Royal Golf Club of Fez is down the road.
This is a very special place - far from the madding crowds, 5 mins from the airport and 20 mins approx. to the medina. We plan to go back for some long weekends - Ryanair flies direct (3 hrs) from London Stansted.
If you like country houses in Tuscany, Riad Le Ksar de Fes has a similar feel to it - the sort of place where you can combine days of sightseeing with lazy days reading a book by the pool, sipping endless coffees or mint teas. We would definitely recommend this place, it's well worth a visit, a real gem.
