Frommers rate the Mount Nelson Hotel a full three stars, meaning that this hotel is exceptional. According to the author of this review the "worst thing about staying here" is when it’s time to leave. It is situated a "10-minute stroll" from the city centre through the "Company Gardens" and the Mount Nelson's own nine acres of gardens offer "all the tranquillity of the country".

Service is "unparalleled" here and the rooms are "elegant and soothing". This "undisputed grande dame of colonial hotels" was cleverly refurbished and boasts a "slinky Planet bar" where celebrities hang out.

The "newly redecorated" Oasis restaurant serves "massive" breakfasts and "light meals", whereas the Cape Colony restaurant is a "more formal dining experience" within a "wonderful" ambience.
