The hotel, which is situated in 400 acres of grounds, including its golf course, is easy to find, located just off the main A80 Stirling Road. The surrounding area is largely residential, and fairly quiet, although there is a small Dobbies Garden centre just down the hill. Parking shouldnt be a problem as there is plenty available to the property.
The hotel has had a massive refurbishment quite recently, and this was certainly evident in the quality of the fixtures and fittings all had that WOW feeling, despite the hotel having quite a modest exterior. However the real wow came once we got to our room as we had wonderful views of the golf course and the campsite hills beyond. Within five minutes of arrival, and we could really start to relax and unwind. My husband was regretting not bringing those golf clubs after all

Our deluxe double room was decorated in a contemporary, neutral style, and I think would appeal to many tastes. I particularly liked the double doors from the lobby area to the bedroom itself, giving that additional sense of space and grandeur. Our room had a bay window, which housed a large sofa, again giving plenty of space for relaxation other than the bedroom itself. It had all the usual features of a four star hotel bedroom, but we did have bottled water and bathrobes, which were both nice additional touches.
A friend had visited the hotel for a week last year, and she told me that the bathrooms here were among the best she had ever seen in hotel rooms. Our bathroom was lovely and spacious, with a separate walk in shower as well as a bath, and something I have never experienced before, but a really nice touch nevertheless, was the use of under-floor heating in the bathroom.

The hotel itself has two restaurants, and as we were on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast package for two nights, we had the opportunity to dine in both. On the first night we dined in the hotels more formal restaurant, and the six plates polished clean give an indication as to the quality of the food, perhaps some of the best I have experienced in a hotel restaurant. Hubby started with his favourite Cullen Skink soup which I sampled and which was to die for, while I opted for a stuffed Portobello mushroom. I chose a chicken breast stuffed with haggis for my main course, as I dont get to enjoy too much haggis living in England now! Hubby had a lamb dish, and we finished with cheesecake and cheese and biscuits. If on DBB, then guests can spend £25 which was ample for three courses, we then retired to the bar with coffee. Prior to ordering we had a bread waiter who sliced some delicious specialty breads, and these were absolutely gorgeous and very moreish these were served with different types of balsamic vinegar, and olive oilWe found the service was also excellent during the meal, and indeed throughout our stay, and friendly without being too intrusive.
Although we didnt feel like we would eat ever again, we did manage to drag ourselves down for breakfast the following morning.(although we did skip lunch!). Breakfast was a combination of table service and a help yourself buffet, with the hot dishes being cooked to order. I opted for Eggs Benedict, which was available at a £3.50 supplement however I just adore Eggs Benedict, especially when I dont have to cook it! It was extremely filling, so I didnt indulge in anything else that was available. On our second morning, the hot food was served buffet style, the restaurant being much busier that morning.

We did not get to use the leisure facilities, partly as we forgot to pack any gear, and partly as we have been running around like crazy and would have been too exhausted in any event..! We did take a short stroll along the buggy path among the first couple of holes (before retreating to the 19th..)
On the second night we opted for more informal dining in the club bar. This is on the first floor of the hotel, and so it offers great views over the course. We had indulged in a drink on our arrival on the first day, and had been very impressed with the décor and feel of the bar hubby felt it was as nice as the club house at Turnberry, which is a pretty impressive accolade. We managed to bag ourselves a great table in a nice alcove which was included a bookcase, so we took the time to look at some of the titles, especially those with a local theme. Food wise, there is plenty available, including steaks, sandwiches, salads and pastas, and I opted for a mushroom stroganoff while hubby chose a steak. I got an additional fix of haggis with a haggis fritter starter, which tasted heavenly.
