Nicola Smith visited the "sprawling" One Devonshire Gardens shortly after it was taken over by Hotel du Vin. The room itself had been refurbished and the author found it "spacious and luxurious" with the only criticism being that it was "a little dark". The room size was ample, with two armchairs as well as the king-size bed which she found "comfortable". In terms of features, this room had "all the usual mod cons" but had additional features including an electronic putting device. The music system played Pavarotti shortly after arrival and on unpacking. The bathroom was luxurious both in its size and its "deep marble surround" bath.

The author found that the restaurant had been extended to three times its original size and now the restaurant accomodates 78 covers.

Service was provided in the lounge, where the deep blues and dark wood ambiance continued, and the barman attended to a spillage with the minimum of fuss. However this service was let down in the restaurant, where staff were "willing" but the service was compromised due to what appeared to be communication issues between staff.

The author found the starter "beautiful" and the main course "perfectly done", but the quantity was disappointing and the presentation on a granite slate was not ideal either. However the party enjoyed both the halibut main course and the crème brûlée pudding as well as the cheese courses.

The author did find the breakfast menu to be expensive at £14 for simple fare despite the fact that the breakfast spread was "ample".

Overall the author felt the best part of One Devonshire Gardens was the luxurious bedrooms and the worst aspect, was the service.

Foders describes One Devonshire Gardens as "a group of Victorian houses on a sloping tree-lined street" which is favored by the rich and famous including "Luciano Pavarotti and Elizabeth Taylor" who we are told consider it to be "their favorite in Glasgow". The Hotel where "elegance is the theme" boasts a "sophisticated drawing room" as well as " sumptuous guest rooms" which are decorated with "flowing draperies and traditional mahogany furnishings". Ten of the room have "four-poster beds". Dining is said to be "equally stylish" and the menu in the "No. 5 restaurant" changed every month, while "sophisticated yet unpretentious dining is also available at the Room restaurant".

The author describes this hotel as the "most glamorous the city has to offer", this is where the famous stay when in Glasgow. He goes on previous guests include "George Clooney " and " Michael Jackson". He describes the town houses built in 1880 along this lane as being " more elegant today than in their heyday". He describes Number29 "the so-called "luxury town house" as being the "most impressive". He goes on to tell us about the suite which contains "a master bedroom with a four-poster bed; and a full bathroom with spa," it also has its own dressing room and sitting room with a separate toilet..
Frommers recommends this hotel giving it a two star rating.
