Fodors state that the Alveston Manor "has ancient elements" and is "surrounded by lawns and a terrace". Located "across the river from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre", the hotel features "a pampering spa" and grounds which are said to have been "the setting for the first production of A Midsummer Night's Dream". The architecture is "Elizabethan" and, although there are some "Tudor-style rooms" which feature "four-poster beds", the majority of the rooms are "modern and done up in sea green and beige".

The author describes the Alverston Manor hotel in Stratford upon Avon as being "perfect for theatergoers" due to its location "just a 5-minute walk from the theaters". The building itself is described as a "Tudor manor" with "a wealth of chimneys and gables" as well as "an Elizabethan gazebo" and "Queen Anne windows".
It is said that the guestrooms in the original part of the building "will appeal to those who appreciate the old-world charm" with their "slanted floors, overhead beams, and antique furnishings". There are some rooms in a more "modern section" but the majority of the rooms at this hotel "are original" and have a "color-coordinated decor" and "built-in walnut furniture". All of the rooms "come equipped with well-maintained bathrooms" that include "shower-tub combinations". The author's advice when booking here is to "ask for an original".
This hotel is very highly recommended by Frommers as indicated by the two star rating.
