We stayed here after taking advantage of a offer found online comprising of a superior room, breakfast, evening meal and afternoon tea.

The hotel is in a great location, just on the edge of Bowness-on-Windermere. You approach the hotel via a long, private drive, and it is set in it's own private grounds with view of Lake Windermere. I believe the property was once owned by Beatrix Potter.

The room:
A good size room with a huge bed (albeit two singles joined together). We had a nice view of the lake from our room, which also looked out onto the hotel grounds. The shower in the bathroom was fantastic. The room was very clean.

Service:
The welcome we received was funtional rather than warm, but the staff in the bar and restaurant were very friendly and helpful.

Food:
The food in the restaurant was of a good quality, but in my opinion a little pricey (although that didn't matter to us as we had an inclusive deal). The breakfast in particular was very good, with a wide choice of options on offer and a number of locally sourced produce on the menu.

Overall:
Great location, good standard rooms, very good food, I would highly recommend a stay at this hotel.

Miss Knight visited the Lake District in 2002, the centenary year of Peter Rabbit, the most famous of the characters from Beatrix Potter's "animal tales". Writing in The Observer she also noted that the author bought Lindeth Howe for her mother and did paintings for her books there. Now a hotel, she was concerned that it may be "one big Potter attraction" but she was gratified to find it a modern country house with "comfy" bedrooms. "Small tasteful reminders" of the author and books in the hotel library make it a "must" for the "true Potter fan". She found the meals "tasty though light" and enjoyed the pool and sauna. She also noted the proximity of and ease of travel to other sites of Potter memorabilia. The hotel can facilitate these trips.

The author notes this house's "most famous owner" was Beatrix Potter. Strikingly built of stone and red brick with a green slate roof, it has a large garden in a "scenic position" on Windermere. Now a stylish hotel, many bedrooms look out over the lake. All rooms are "comfortably furnished" and some can accommodate a family. As well as a bar and restaurant, the hotel offers limited room service and health club facilities with an indoor pool. Frommers "recommends" Lindeth Howe and considers it to be "moderately priced" ($$)
