"Enormous, absolutely vast" is how Mystery Guest sums up his room; in fact it is a "mystery Guest record". The suite to which he had been upgraded comprised two en-suite bedrooms, lounge, dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. The size left him feeling "flabbergasted".

The décor is modern with a "blond wood floor", but elements of the original 1840s building remain in the "exposed red brick" and the "steel girders" which break up the "echoing space". The same mix was evident in the lobby with its "trendy chandeliers" and a "veritable forest" of columns. The view was not great, overlooking a canal and a "vast" car park. The "thick" walls, however, ensured quiet.

Although aimed at business travellers each guest is "treated like a prince" and The Place compares well with "trendier" hotels nearby. The reviewer ate in the restaurant where the portions were inevitably "large". Overall he gave it just under 8/10 with the room scoring 9/10.
