The author tells us that this hotel is amongst the "most luxurious hotels in northern England" and that it has a reputation that is "well deserved." The location is in the "heart of Chester" and the building itself is described as "a fine, half-timbered, five-story building."
The foyer of this hotel is described as "high-ceilinged" with "a 200-year-old chandelier" and "a carved wooden staircase", whilst the floor is constructed of marble.
The bedrooms are said to be "well-furnished" as well as "large" and "individually styled." These bedrooms are furnished "with silks from France" and other "handmade furnishings from Italy." We are told that the closets are "huge" and that the bedrooms include "CD players" and "double-glazed windows."
The author states that the bathrooms have "heated towel racks" and "Floris toiletries and bathrobes", but goes on to say that whilst a few of these "are marble" others still have "white laminate and linoleum." which he describes as "a sorry sight ."
This hotel is rated as exceptional by Frommers as indicated by the authors 3 stars.
