We had difficulty driving to this hotel as the area was flooded. When we rang the reception we were given wrong directions, so ended up circling around for an hour extra and almost got screamed at down the phone.

When we finally arrived, the receptionist was on his mobile chatting to his friend, he was very reluctant to end his personal call to deal with us.

He was uninterested in doing his job, just about gave us our key for the room. He then walked away with some papers and returned a few minutes later to tap on his computer, completely ignoring us.
I had to ask if there was anything else, before he looked up to just say No.

We were not given any information about how to get to our room, what time breakfast was served or anything useful you would normally expect.

Considering this is suppose to be a 3 star hotel, there was no information provided in the room.
We guessed by the menu on the door that breakfast was served until 10am as that was the time until when you could order room service. The next morning we went down at 09.30 and got told we were too late.

The room itself seemed clean at first, until we started noticing cracks in the walls, damp spots, lipstick marks on the glasses and water marks all over the bathroom. It looked like it had been hoovered and a quick dusting. As we saw the 'cleaning trolley' the next morning, it consisted of a hoover, bucket with a sponge and a banana and a tray of toiletries.

The hot water didn't work, yet no one seemed to think it could be a nice thing to tell people this.

The breakfast was dissapointing.
The menu states for the 'big' breakfast: Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Eggs, bacon, Toast, black pudding and hash browns.
Our plate arrived with: HALF a mushroom, HALF a tomato, 1 fied egg, HALF a piece of black pudding, with ONE hash brown. I'm not one to nitpick, but considering they are charing £10 for these breakfasts, that is appalling !

Overall, I was not impressed with this hotel and the 3 stars should be taken away!

More suitable for Stag Parties than other guests

Would love to know if someone else had a better experience but i rather felt let down by The New Northumbria hotel. The hotel seemed like somewhere better suited to a stag party than someone taking a weekend break or on business. The hotel seemed to be perched on top of a disco and a bar. It was also a hotel where the walls seemed thin and every footstep or squeek in the corridoor would reverberate into the room. I would make an effort to find another hotel. To be fair the staff at the front desk were utterly charming (unlike those at breakfast who denied someone breakfast who was about 15 seconds past the deadline)...perhaps the couple in question were spared though as I had the most manking scrambled eggs I have eaten since school: yuck.
