The Ritz Hotel was "the first reinforced steel and concrete building in London" and was built in 1906. Location wise, we are told that this hotel "looks onto Piccadilly and Green Park."
The Ritz was refurbished in the millennium and this "has enabled it to live up to its name and fortunately it is now as glitzy and ritzy as anyone could want."
The hotel itself is described as being "relatively small, with a mere 131 rooms" with each room being decorated "in pretty pastels and gold leaf." The rooms are "full of antique furniture" and also include "fireplaces and have plush marble bathrooms." We are also told that "the needs of the twenty-first century are well catered" for.
There are a choice of places to dine at, one of these being The Louis XIV restaurant which is "probably the most beautiful dining room in London."
The article concludes by informing us that there is a fitness centre at the hotel for "those who cannot do without a daily workout."

Presented to us as "one of the original examples of sophisticated living and refined excess" in this Lonely Planet Guide review, The Ritz is "synonymous" with "glamour and grandeur". Almost a century old, and supposedly "based on the designs of a French country house", it's more of a "French palace" style from the interior, rather than "a country cottage".
The guide describes the guestroom decorations as being "painted in fairytale colours", with "24-carat gold leaf designs", and "Louis XVI-style furniture". There are "private dining rooms", with "sparkling mirrors" which "glisten with gold leaf".
The author of this review insists that there is "something almost dreamlike" about the Ritz, which makes it such a "romantic place to stay". Also, we are told that the service "is second to none" with "two staff for every guest room".

In his review of The Ritz, Guardian writer John Brunton comments "the Ritz is the one that stands out" from the many "grand palace hotels in London".
The Ritz has been open since 1906 and the author concludes that its been "the most exclusive place to be seen ever since".
Visitors wishing to experience the Ritz must be aware of the mandatory dress code.
John Brunton goes on to mention that there is a doorman who might appear "slightly intimidating". After you pass the doorman, "a pair of glass doors opens from the lobby into the Grand Gallery". Within this area the surroundings are "sumptuous" and include "glittering chandeliers, velvet sofas and marble statues".
The Ritz is famous for afternoon teas, which are served on the "opulent" Palm Court. Well dressed waiters serve customers sandwiches which include "smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches, and freshly baked scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream".
The Ritz also features the Rivoli Bar, which John Brunton feels has "a cooler Art Deco look". The person in charge of this area is "bubbly South African Alan Cook," who is described as being "a total charmer ". The author recommends that the drink to order is "a Ritz champagne cocktail, a lethal mix of Grand Marnier, vodka and champagne."
The cost of an afternoon tea is £36 and a Ritz champagne cocktail is £12.

The hotel, which is described as being built in "French Renaissance style", is overlooking Green Park and is to the writer "synonymous with luxury".
The interior decoration of the hotel is described with "gold-leafed molding, marble columns and potted plants abound."
Recent refurbishments, during which the guestroom have been fitted with new carpeting and air-condition, have " recaptured much of the Ritz's original splendor".
The rooms, whose style is described as "Belle Epoque", each have their "own character". The decoration exists of "marble fireplaces, elaborate gilded plasterwork and pastel hues".
The bathrooms are "elegantly appointed", with "deluxe toiletries, deep tubs and robes".
The writer mentions that corner rooms in this hotel are "grander" and "more spacious".
