Frommers rates this "marvelous" hotel as exceptional and it is so popular with celebrities, that there is always a crowd of "paparazzi" waiting outside. The author describes the hotel as a "beauty of a landmark Beaux Arts building" that mixes "old-world charm" with "modern state-of -the-art technology". He found the rooms to be "huge" with more than enough "storage space" and was most impressed by the "bedside control panel" that controls everything from "lighting", over TV and "stereo" to the "air-conditioning".The marble bathrooms are "huge" and offer another TV and "control panel". The health club and spa have been found to be one of the "biggest" and also "best" in NY. The bar of the hotel is situated on the rooftop and the services of the concierge desk have been described as "faultless".

From the very first moment when you reach the hotel you realize that it is "a smart operation" which is situated in "one of the smartest locations in town". The "black-uniformed" staff welcomes guests with a "warm Asia-style welcome" and the doorman "jumps to attention" as soon as a taxi pulls up. The Lobby is "grand" and features "marble columns" which, oddly, are not "off-putting". The check-in was dealt with "quickly" and "efficiently". The author felt that "all attributes of an excellent Asian hotel" had been "flawlessly transferred" to New York. The location is "almost unbeatable", right of Fifth Avenue, "two minutes" from Central Park with the Rockefeller Center just "5 minutes walk" away. The decor in the rooms is "chic yet comfortable". The bathroom of the author's room was "well-equipped" with a "deep" tub and a TV "so you could laze back in the bubbles and watch". The king-size bed was "bigger than average" and there are "top quality bed linens". When it comes to business equipment, there is "a cubby hole behind the concierge desk" which is open to all and equipped with PCs, printers, free internet access and photocopier. The team of concierges "can help to sort out most emergencies" and buy theatre tickets and order limos. The room service was the "best" the author had "for ages", as the staff was "super efficient" and she received (within five minutes) a "super-huge" sandwich and a side dish with "delicious" chips. In the summer time you should not miss the Pen-Top bar "on the top floor". You feel as if you have "the best view in town". The author proclaims it "a shame" that the cocktails were not as good as the view. The margherita was "not so stunning". A rarity in New York is the swimming pool which can be used "in all weather" The roof terrace is "perfect for a bit of sun worship". The author hardly finds a downside to the hotel as "everything was well" - the staff was "friendly" and "you feel like they could cope with anything". In the "stylish" hotels you "do not have to dress up to the nines" always. In the opinion of the author this is a "smooth running, infinitely stylish New York property" with "great" service and without the "prissy" attitude of other five-star hotels.

The author describes the Peninsula as having "a magnificent Beaux Arts façade along Fifth Avenue" with a less impressive entrance on 55th Street manned by a "bellboy in his rakish white hat". The lobby swarms with "cashmere-coated business people and Hollywood stars" and the "Gotham Bar" is described as "the only real place to linger" whilst the "Pen Top Bar" is said to be "a perfect late-night eerie." Facilities include "a health club and pool" and the "efficient service" contributes to the atmosphere of "sophistication and cosiness" that permeates the Peninsula Hotel. The location nearby "Rockefeller Center, museums and Central Park" is described as being "second to none." Brian Johnston further describes the guestrooms as having state-of-the-art equipment and "possibly the best hotel bathrooms in all New York" with "large marble baths" and televisions in the majority. Suites feature "shelves of books, mood lamps and comfy sofas" and fresh flower arrangements which "hint of the country in downtown Manhattan."

The Author describes the Penninsula Hotel in New York as one of the Top Hotels of New York. The location at Fifth Avenue in a landmark building with some restaurants. The Pen-top Bar is "one of the city's best backdrops for after-work cocktails during the spring and summer" while the restaurant "Fives" with it window "overlooking Fifth Avenue" serves contemporary American cuisine.

The 242 rooms are "fairly compact" but "offer technology ... at its height" with cordless phones, in-room fax and "electronic control panels for lighting and temperature regulation and a system that allows guests to use their personal cell phones as an extension of the room phones". An indoor pool and a sundeck as an health club are also available.

Some rooms, so the author, are overlooking St. Patrick's Cathedral.

The prices are noted as a short sum-up of the features
