I visited Orlando in early August in order to attend a wedding. The infrastructure is as one would expect at a Ritz-Carlton; the service was glossily American and strikingly superficial, but I was in Florida!

There were a couple of glitches to do with the room, but they were resolved speedily. I dined at "Normans" the "fine dining" restaurant in the hotel and the ambience was lovely; however, the food was almost inedible. I couldn't be bothered to complain, as there was little point in doing so. Having left half of the tapas I'd ordered, two thirds of the salad and 90% of the main course, the very friendly waiter asked if I wanted a "box". WHY!

As I left the restaurant bemused and amused rather than cross, the restaurant manager asked if all had been good for me: I replied that it had been one of the most horrid meals I'd ever eaten and he smiled and told me to "enjoy the rest of my day"!!! I laughed so much that it was almost worth the $150 dollars for the experience!

If I ever have to return to Orlando, I would stay at the Ritz-Carlton, but dine elsewhere!

Described as a "luxurious destination" with the high standards normally ascribed to Ritz-Carlton properties, the Ritz-Carlton Orlando is "inspired by the grand palazzos of Italy" and is set "amid the world's finest citrus groves." It is also said to be a "golf paradise " with golfers receiving "very special attention." Guestrooms feature "hand painted Italian furniture and top amenities" and afford guests "panoramic views" from their private balconies. The "world-class" spa onsite has been likened to a "luxurious Mediterranean palazzo" and offers a range of specialized treatments and therapies. There are six venues to select from for dining, including the "signature Norman's" with its "acclaimed New World Cuisine." The hotel also provides an impressive selection of meeting and function venues and has been rated by Gayot as providing "everything you need and more" (4 "Golden Keys" out of 5).
