[more]The Aga Cafer Pasha Bath is located on Namik Kemal Square directly in the centre of Famagusta's Old Town, next to the Venetian Palace. The bath was named after the well-known governor Aga Cafer Pasha who worked in the city after the Ottoman Conquest. He was famous for his improvements of the fresh water distribution in the city and responsible for the many fountains and aqueducts that could be found all around.
The bath was built at the beginning of the seventeenth century on the grounds of a Franciscan monastery . The part of the building that used to serve as a changing room features a Frankish cross-vault that indicates that it is much older than the rest of the structure and it is believed to be part of a 14th-century church.
