The area of Rural Cottages Acebuche
The Rural Cottages Acebuche are located in the little village of Casas del Monte, in the valley Valle del Ambroz, in Caceres area (Extremadura, Spain). This area is famous for its delicious strawberries and cherries. It is a place of an extraordinary natural simplicity, on the hillside of the mountains called Traslasierra (750 m altitude) in the North of Extramadura, specifically in the area called the “Switzerland of Extremadura”.
A quiet and calm place, surrounded by a deep vegetation of local trees: alders, chestnuts, oaks, and many more.
Next to the 'Garganta ancha' (wide narrow pass), the continuous light sound of the water crashing into the rocks makes the traveller dream of the archaeological Roman finds next to the Vía or Ruta de la Plata (Silver Route)
Many traditional paths cross all the area and can be run walking or cycling. If you like excitement, you can enjoy hang-gliding on the top of the mountain, at 1490 metres of altitude.
Doubtlessly it is a dream destination for the tourism in rural areas.
With wonderful sunsets where you can view the whole Valle del Ambroz, the little town of Granadilla in the distance, just before the land of La Jurdana. Granadilla was a fortified town, later flooded by the reservoir Gabriel y Galán, and nowadays it is a school workshop.
Continuing the thousand-year-old Silver Route and after crossing the Roman arch of Caparra, to the South, we can visit the medieval and feudal town of Plasencia, nerve centre of the whole area. There we find two valleys: the valley of the cherry par excellence, and the valley of the imperial region of La Vera. And also, of course, the park Monfragüe, a wonderful Mediterranean spot with its unique fauna and flora, where you will enjoy the everlasting flight of eagles and vultures.
At the other side, we can visit Hervás. This town has one the most important old Jewish districts of Spain. In the North, in the region of Castilla y León, the town of Bejar, famous for its textile industry, next to Candelario, which has a popular architecture perfectly kept. Also, we find the ski resort La Covatilla, where you can enjoy all the winter sports, at only 30 minutes by the motorway from the Ruta de la Plata (Silver Route).
