The Hagia Sophia in its present form was constructed in between 532 and 537on the site of two earlier churches. Until the construction of the Cathedral of Seville in 1520 it remained the largest cathedral that had ever been built.
The Hagia Sophie is especially famous for its 56m high and 31m wide massive dome and is regarded as one of the masterpieces of Byzantine architecture.
