[more]The Gallen-Kallela museum is located at Tarvaspää in the city of Espoo. The building used to be an atelier for one of the most well-known Finnish artist, Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865-1931) and it is desinged by the artist him self. The museum was opened in 1961.
Akseli Gallen-Kallela is said to be the national artist of Finland. His style in paintings was 19th century national romantic and realism. His most famous paintins are for example "Poika ja varis" (Boy and a crow), "Démasquée" and "Akka ja kissa" (Old woman and a cat)
The museum has several collections of paintings, sculptures, drawings and photos by Gallen-Kallela. Also some of his personal belongings can be seen. The museum is open 15.5. - 31.8. daily from 10 am to 6 pm. 1.9.14.5. from tuesday to saturday 11 am to 4 pm and sundays from 11 am to 5 pm. It is easy to reach from Helsinki, while there are several bus connections available.
