[more]EMMA, a.k.a Espoo Museum of Modern Art, was founded in 2002 and since 2006 it has been located in Tapiola - one of many city centres of Espoo. The museum is located at the so called WeeGee house - a former house of the Finnish publishing company Weilin+Göös. With it's 5000 square meters EMMA is one of the biggest galleries in Finland.
The purpouse of EMMA is to offer high quality modern art exhibitions showing the audience art work mostly from the 20th century. The museum has two major art collections; the collection of city of Espoo and the collection of Saastamoinen foundation - together around 4500 pieces of art.
Most of the exhibitions in EMMA are temporary and museum offers other kinds of activities as well. For example teaching, music events, activities for children, research and documentation.
EMMA is open from tuesday to sunday 11 am - 6 pm. There are special tickets available, that allow visitors to have a look at the whole WeeGee house including EMMA, the city museum of Espoo, Finnish clock museum, Helinä Rautavaara museum and for example Galleria AARNI.
EMMA is easy to reach from Helsinki, while there are many bus connections to Tapiola and the museum is then in a walking distance from the centre.
