Stanage Edge - Hathersage, United Kingdom
Stanage Edge in the Peak District National Park (24.09.2007 22:22)
Stanage Edge is the name given to the largest of the Peak District's gritstone edges, it is also visually, the most impressive and has become a magnet for rock climbers who come here from all over the country to climb its sheer vertical rock faces. Stanage Edge is only a few miles from where I live so this is a place that I am very familiar with. It is a place that I visit often at the [more...] -
Bolsover Castle - Bolsover, United Kingdom
Bolsover Castle (20.09.2007 20:27)
Following the triumphs of William the Conqueror during his famous battle of 1066 the newly appointed King William set about rewarding those loyal men who had fought for his cause and several different Castles were built and given away as gifts. The Peveril family was one of the greatest beneficiaries for their support and all across Northern England there are examples of Castles connected to this [more...] -
Conisbrough Castle - Conisbrough, United Kingdom
Conisbrough Castle (17.09.2007 19:41)
Conisbrough Castle has often been described as South Yorkshire's best kept secret. It is located in the village of Conisborough, six miles west of Doncaster and seven miles east of Rotherham. It is thought that Conisbrough Castle dates from around the year 1070 although very little is known about the early days of the Castle other than it was built for Earl William, the son in law of King [more...] -
St Peter's Church - Edensor, United Kingdom
St Peter's Church (14.09.2007 19:03)
Edensor is one of the prettiest little villages that I have discovered. It lies adjacent to the vast Chatsworth Estate in the heart of Derbyshire's Peak District National Park. This whole village, which is pronounced "Ensor" was relocated a couple of hundred years ago, to its present site, from a few hundred metres further down the road. This was because the then Duke of Devonshire (from [more...] -
Longshaw Estate - Sheffield, United Kingdom
The Longshaw Estate (11.09.2007 20:34)
The Peak District National Park is in my opinion one of the most picturesque places in the whole of England. Ok, I may be a little bit bias since it happens to be on my doorstep but there are so many different places to visit that you could go there every weekend of your life and never go to the same place twice. The Longshaw Estate is the sort of place that is perfect for the Peak District [more...] -
Tankersley Manor - Barnsley, United Kingdom - September, 2007
Tankersley Manor (09.09.2007 10:58)
Tankersley Manor is a place that I have been to a few times over the years and it was also once the location of my work's Christmas Party. I visited here most recently last weekend to attend a wedding. It is a very well known hotel and restaurant with a good local reputation. From the outside Tankersley Manor is quite impressive to say the least, standing in its own well maintained gardens [more...] -
Sewerby Hall and Gardens - Sewerby, United Kingdom
Sewerby Hall and Gardens (05.09.2007 20:19)
Sewerby Hall and its park and gardens lie approximately 2 miles (3Km) to the north of the popular seaside resort of Bridlington in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The park covers an area of 50 acres and was formerly the grounds of Sewerby Hall, which sits on the edge of this park. Sewerby Hall is an example of a grand country house that dates from the early part of the 18th century. John Graeme [more...] -
Fire and Police Museum - Sheffield, United Kingdom
The Fire and Police Museum (04.09.2007 20:20)
The Sheffield Fire & Police Museum houses a unique collection of fire and police artefacts and memorabilia. It is run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers, and is the largest volunteer run museum of its kind in Britain. Until a few years ago this place was free to enter but these days the museum is supported by ticket entry sales and donations. It is also a registered educational [more...] -
Flamborough Head - Flamborough, United Kingdom
Flamborough Head (03.09.2007 20:25)
Flamborough Head is an impressive rocky headland, which lies on the east coast of Yorkshire. It is a place that I have visited many times over the years and somewhere that I always love to return to, for this place holds very fond memories for me. If you should ever find yourself in this part of Yorkshire then I would definitely recommend that you pay this place a visit if only to escape the [more...] -
Clumber Park - Worksop, United Kingdom
Clumber Park (01.09.2007 13:31)
Clumber Park is situated within an area of North Nottinghamshire known as the Dukeries. It is a vast area of peaceful woodland, open heathland and rolling farmland. It is owned by the National Trust and is an excellent place to visit for anyone wanting a day out and wishing to escape to the countryside. The park covers an area of 3,800 square acres, with a superb serpentine shaped lake at its [more...]
