Chicago Hard Rock Cafe - Braintree, United Kingdom
    Burgers and rock music - I wish I was 18 again (11.08.2008 01:44)
As the name suggests, everything here is about rock music. The menu offers American style cuisine with burgers and ribs and for those who like it a bit more exotic there are Mexican specialties and curries. [more...]

La Piazza - Braintree, United Kingdom
Probably the best restaurant in Braintree (10.08.2008 23:44)
Braintree is a bit of a culinary wasteland and La Piazza, with its authentic Italian cuisine, stands out from all the many chain restaurant and gastro-pubs, with their inter-changeable menus, that dominate the scene. [more...]

Garden Cottage - Totnes, United Kingdom - November, 2004
A beautiful cottage to get away from it all (10.08.2008 15:58)
We'd booked the Garden Cottage at Higher Poulston Farm for a late getaway in November for 1 week. The cottages are located on a very old farm; most of them are converted former farm buildings, right next to a working farm. There are extensive grounds of more than 9 acres which surround the buildings and the possibilities to go for a walk right from the farm are excellent. [more...]

Crazy Kids Adventure Play - Braintree, United Kingdom
Let them go crazy at Crazy Kids (10.05.2008 21:26)
Crazy Kids is one of the largest indoor play areas for children in Essex. Located in a former warehouse, not far from Freeport shopping village, it can easily be reached with the free Freeport shuttle bus that connects Freeport with the centre of the town. From the bus stop it is only a short walk and you might like to combine a visit to the shops with some playtime for the children. [more...]

House on the Hill Toy Museum - Stansted, United Kingdom
Toys, toys, toys and even more toys (17.04.2008 03:01)
The House on the Hill Toy Museum is located in Stansted Mountfitched, directly next to Mountfitched Castle. It is home to the largest privately-owned toy collection in Europe and features more than 80.000 exhibits. Originally we had planned to visit Mountfitched Castle and I didn't even know that there was a toy museum right next to it both attractions can be visited with a combined ticket. [more...]

Mountfitchet Castle - Stansted, United Kingdom
Stocks and gallows and a bath every six weeks (17.04.2008 02:54)
Mountfitched Castle is the replica of a castle and Norman village that had been built here in 1066. The original castle was destroyed during a attack in the early 13th century and there is hardly anything left of it as the stones had been taken by the people from the village to built new houses. It is believed though that there has been a settlement on this exact spot since the Iron Ages. It is [more...]

Go wild at BeWilderwood (16.04.2008 00:50)
Honestly, before we arrived at BeWilderwood I had no clear idea what to expect. I had never heard of the place before and only went there because I had seen a small advert in a brochure when we. "A curious tree house adventure" it read and that sounded like a fun place for the girls to me. I envisioned the tree house I had made with my friends when I was small and thought it would be some kind of [more...]

Grime's Graves - Thetford, United Kingdom
    What a hole ! (02.04.2008 21:42)
"What happened here?" asked my husband as soon as he got out of the car and had a look around. "Looks like a Swiss Cheese!" And right he was, the pockmarked landscape at Grime's Graves really resembles an Emmental cheese with all those holes in the ground. Exactly those holes were what we had come for. The shape of this strange landscape is nothing that has grown naturally and all those holes [more...]
