Egyptian Museum

Centrally located and open daily from 09.00 – 18.30, this museum features more than 100 000 exhibits which include the treasures from various pharaohs’ tombs. Although only a copy of the famous Rosetta-stone is on display (the original being in London), there are many sarcophagi and other valuable items. For an extra fee of approximately 10 Euro visitors can also view a separate chamber which contains 11 mummies, including that of Ramses II.

Temple of Horus

This temple is the second largest in Egypt after Karnak, and the best preserved. Dedicated to Horus, the Egyptian god with the head of a falcon, it was begun in 237 BC and completed in 57 BC. Valley of the Kings

The Valley of the Kings is located on the western banks of the Nile opposite Luxor and consists of two regions, the East Valley and the West Valley. The temples and burial places of more than 60 Egyptian pharaohs have been established there over many dynasties, including those of Tutankhamun and Ramesses the Great. Temple of Luxor

The Temple of Luxor is an ancient Egyptian temple situated on the east bank of the River Nile. The festival of Opet was traditionally celebrated here annually and the temple was known as one of the holiest in the southern parts. It was built by Amenhotep III and Ramesses II and is directly in the centre of the city making it easily accessible on foot, by taxi or public transport. Tourists are welcome to explore the temple at their own pace or can opt for a tour guide for a small fee. Photos are allowed and the Luxor Museum and Museum of mummification are close by. These display mainly objects that were found in the temple itself.
