Delicate Essen
I first heard of Valvona and Crolla a good couple of years ago now, via an on-line review of all things. And it took me a few months before I was able to make it to their wonderful shop in Elm Row, nr Leith Walk, Edinburgh. Description:	Valvona & Crolla is one of Scotland's longest established independent specialist food shops, it is run by the descendants of the original founders. Benedetto Valvona, an Italian immigrant from the Cassino area in central Italy, founded this business when he began selling Italian food and wine in the Old Town of Edinburgh towards the end of the 19th century. He handed over the business to his son Raffaele Valvona in the early 1900s and established a company called R. Valvona & Co. When Alfonso Crolla, grandfather of the current management, joined the business in 1934, Valvona & Crolla Limited was established at its present address, which is on the edge of Edinburgh's New Town. Since its early beginnings the company has grown constantly and it has seen many changes, both in its size and its structure. It now has one of the finest selections of quality food and wine in the United Kingdom and offers a personal service to its customers who buy from both the shop and also to its UK-wide customers that purchase products via mail order. All of the products are sourced from small, artisan producers and farmers, that are committed to selling pure, flavoursome natural produce.
