[jipp05, 28/05/2012] The Scott monument is one of the first things you will notice when arriving in Edinburgh thanks to its size and its location in the Princes Street gardens.
The monument dates back to 1844 and was erected to commemorate the life and times of the Scottish author Sir William Scott. If anything though the monument looks even older thanks to its blackened appearance which is thanks to the type of sandstone that it was built from which is known to attract dirt and blacken quickly. This really adds to its gothic look and even on a sunny day the monument looks imposing and severe.

[linzeeloulabelle, 18/05/2012] I absolutely love going to zoos and Edinburgh is one of my favourites. My now boyfriend (and long time best friend) lives in Stirling which is just over an hour away from Edinburgh so once a year when I go to see him, we always take a trip to the zoo. I’m quite sure he’s bored of going now every single year but he knows it makes me happy so doesn’t mind taking me. My most recent visit was in April this year (2011) so all information is correct at the time of this review going live. As there are so many different animals at the zoo, I wont go over all of them as it would take forever!

Having travelled up to Edinburgh and walked around for several hours, we were very hungry and this meal really hit the spot. The staff are friendly and welcoming and chat to customers when serving but not so much that it becomes intrusive.
The burgers are well cooked and very tasty and attractively served with enough food to fill us. The atmosphere in the restaurant is good with there been plenty of people even at 2 o clock mid week although the music was a bit loud but that’s maybe my age!
We did buy a few bits and bobs in the shop area and although the merchandise is a bit expensi

[serendipity, 16/04/2012] The tour is just the right length of time and the stories interesting and gruesome, but nothing overly terrifying. The actors are good and they seem to know the people they can call upon for participation since no one objected.
Definitely recommended if in Edinburgh.
[jipp05, 19/02/2012] I was recently in Edinburgh for the night with two friends meeting up with a couple of other friends who live in the city. As there were three of us we decided to look for a triple room but these seem to be few and far between in Edinburgh and the ones we could find were extremely expensive and we may as well have just booked separate rooms. In the end we decided to forego a hotel and book an apartment after having a look on booking.com. We decided to book ourselves into Richmond Place apartments as it was only coming up as £79 for a superior studio apartment that could sleep four people. As t

[jipp05, 19/02/2012] The Witchery by the castle is a restaurant and hotel that I have always wanted to visit mainly because I have always loved its name and the feeling it evokes. I was lucky enough to be able to finally visit it with my partner and am pleased to say that it lived up to my expectations.
Finding The Witchery is simple as it is located on The Royal Mile near the famous castle and is housed in a stunning medieval building.
Inside the hotel is decorated in such a sumptuous and luxurious manner and I look forward to the day when I can actually stay overnight. Unfortunately this time it was only dinn

[avril, 30/11/2011] One nights stay at this small, friendly hotel. Good location for sightseeing and shopping.
Booked because of other good reviews and was not disappointed.
[squeaky223, 09/11/2011] A great friendly hotel within 15 minutes walking of Princes Street. Owners are helpful and the breakfasts are more than adequate. A car is not necessary to explore the many sights of the beautiful city.
[finlay, 07/11/2011] We spent two nights at the Barcelo last week. Excellent location just off Princes Street. Enjoyed views of the Royal Mile and the Bridges from our room. Beakfast selection both mornings was outstanding - much improved since our last stay two years ago. Room temperature was adjustable and therefore suited us well. I also enjoyed an excellent massage from Maria in the leisure facilities as well as an early morning swim in a lovely warm pool. Would definitely return for more pampering!
[stecky, 29/10/2011] Great location less than 10 mins leisurely walk from Princes Street. An added bonus is free off street parking at the guest house and it is easy to walk to locations in the new town and old town of Edinburgh.
There are plenty of good and varied restaurants and eating establishments in the vicinity and the owners are happy to make recommendations.
The Broughton Hotel is small, cosy and well decorated. The rooms are all en-suite with tea / coffee making facilities, tv, free wifi and central heating. There is a range of adapters, chargers, etc. available for guests.

[jeffjen, 26/09/2011] On a recent trip to Edinburgh to attend a concert, we stayed at the Premier Inn, Edinburgh East. Located on Willowbrae Road on the outskirts of Edinburgh city centre, I chose this hotel based upon the price as it was available for only £39 per night if you booked a month before your stay. This is part of an offer Premier Inn have been promoting for a while now and one which I have been able to take advantage of previously, as well as booking this hotel and also another later in the summer. Having stayed in Premier Inns a number of times previously, I do think that £39 represents great value fo

[hannah_i, 12/07/2011] If you're a Tartan enthusiast, this is definitely a place for you! The Weaving Mill is free to enter and covers pretty much every aspect related to Tartan fabric, from the history and origin to diverse designs and manufacture. The museum section shows how tartan evolved from a simple and practical over-the-shoulder garment, to fashionable clothing complete with pouch. You can also see how the tartan is produced using complex machinery, and even get antique-style photographs for a reasonable fee. In the gift shop, you can find just about everything tartan and Scotland / Edinburgh related - and th

[hannah_i, 05/07/2011] The Whisky Museum is well worth a visit, especially if you're somewhat of a whisky enthusiast. The Museum is accessed via a small whisky barrel ride from the reception desk, where you are shown videos about the long process of producing whisky. You are then led through the remainder of the whisky museum with a tour guide, followed by a tasting session and information about the different types of whisky and their traditional flavours, as well as a peak into the world's largest scotch whisky collection, which houses over 3500 bottles! Prices are GBP 12.50 for adults, which is on the expensive si

[cassandra_the_cat, 03/06/2011] The Hudson is located very close to Edinburgh's main tourist attractions and shopping quarter. It is a stylish hotel with friendly service. Room setup was a bit strange - there were two steps to get from the hallway to the bedroom, why? And the window was quite high up, but nontheless, it was a very stylish Scottish experience.
[jipp05, 31/05/2011] The Edinburgh dungeon is a spin off of the other dungeons which already exist in other parts of the UK as well as in Amsterdam and Hamburg, Germany.
They are suppose to be educational as well as fun exploring the dark and sometimes macarbe history of the cities in which they are found but after visiting a couple of the dungeon in different locations I went to the Edinburgh one expecting it to be a little tacky, fun but certainly not scary and that is exactly what I got.
The dungeons aren't real dungeons obviously but are instead recreations of ghoulish parts of history. They are designed to b

[jipp05, 31/05/2011] The Royal Palace of Holyrood is the Queen's official residence when she is in the Scottish Capital and is located right at the bottom of the Royal Mile so makes a great place to finish your tour of the Royal Miles attractions. It is located near to the Scottish parlament building and also the Dynamic Earth exhibition so you can do all these sights in an aternoon.
I am a huge fan of historic buildings so I was in my element in Edinburgh and the Holyrood Palace was certainly striking and absolutley beautiful.
As part of the Edinburgh pass we had free entry to the Queens Gallery which is located

This middle-range Scottish / French restaurant is a good choice for all gourmets, or for those who would like to exercise their gourmet muscles-- without breaking their wallets
The wine list is amazing and the ambiance was private and romantic. We had the best dining experience in a long time. Our server was great and helped us choose the best thing on the menu. We can’t wait to go back!
[hotbot74, 05/04/2011] Stayed at the Airlie recently. Great room, good food, really helpful owners would recommend and stay here again
