Although she lives in Edinburgh, this reviewer doesn't feel she is "overly biased" in her opinion of Edinburgh Castle, "one of the most spectacular" anywhere. She reviews it first in a series on Scottish Castle because she feels it is the "most likely" castle for visitors to see, as one "can not help" noticing it "atop its rocky base".

It is only "short walk up" to the "huge and imposing" edifice before you have to pay the somewhat "high" entry fee, but it is possible to see "the best part" of the castle, i.e. its exterior, for nothing.
