A right Royal Castle
We visited Edinburgh Castle as part of a day trip, during a long weekend stay in Scotland, for Hubby's 50th birthday. Although it was late October we had some good weather for our visit. Although she lives in Edinburgh, this reviewer doesn't feel she is "overly biased" in her opinion of Edinburgh Castle, "one of the most spectacular" anywhere. She reviews it first in a series on Scottish Castle because she feels it is the "most likely" castle for visitors to see, as one "can not help" noticing it "atop its rocky base". It [more...]

The castle was "used as a defence" in the 6th century and its walls were proved inaccessible in the 18th century. Used "over the centuries" "by countless armies", to travel from Scotland to England.
