[Chouchin, 25.07.2007] Straying in the very room where J K Rowling finished the last Harry Potter, the reviewer cannot resist allusions to magic, muggles and the various characters now so well known to us all. In the course of following in Rowling's inspiration she sits at the "modern" desk, on the "beige sofa", on the "dark leather chairs" and on the "soft" bed. She concludes that the size of the room makes the furnishing look "sparse". There are other niggles too: no tea or coffee making facilities, no free internet. The bathroom is "dated" and stained, and has no separate shower. She did, however, enjoy the "stunning" view of Edinburgh framed in a "pair of round windows".

Other parts of the hotel are better: the "calming" lobby, the Bollinger bar with its "wooden floor and chandelier" and the "lime green" brasserie serving "magnificent" Scottish breakfasts. The Number One restaurant has a Michelin star and provides "joys", the only "tart" note being the dessert.

Appropriately for a Harry Potter linked hotel, it is very child friendly. Toddlers are welcome in the restaurant, room service caters for children and babysitting can be arranged. The "friendly" staff "cluck" over the reviewer's child and bring a toybox. For older children they hire out computer games or, of course, Harry Potter books.
